just got an email from a jw friend
by outofthelionsden inhi guys, so i got an email form an old jw friend that i haven't seen in a long time , i moved away to another state a few years ago.
so she sent me an email to tell me that she found out that i had left "jehovahs organization" and that she has been crying for weeks because she always looked up to me ( i was always that kid that pioneered & always had demonstrations and experiences in the district and circuit assemblies) she said that she's not judging me but that she cant believe i would do that , that i know better and that there is no reason ever to leave and hopes that we wake up before its to late..... i have to respond but i know she wont hear ttatt there deep in, so any suggestions would be appreciated on what to respond.. ( im so heart broken and tiered at this point.
i know she is doing it out of love, she's actually the only person that has contacted me, not even my family has done that.

(and making it clear you're not saying they aren't gods prophets on earth, just that you're not sure, don't know).. the reason i ask is cos i'm finding it hard to completely fade without an external reason.

DATA-DOG, i'm not serving at all now, came off as an elder a while back, but I do vaguely remember that letter about witchhunts..
I'm gonna be very careful about what I say, and to whom I say ANYTHING. If the loyalty question comes up, I'll be non-committal, just saying that I don't KNOW for SURE. I can't see action being taken against me for that, it's quite clearly just a question of doubting not apostacizing, I just think that if people see me less and less then they've got something in their mind to account for it, rather than wondering, and pestering!
(I know I don't owe them anything, but I do think it'll be an easier route for ME).
We'll see.

Wow, thanks everyone for the sage advice..
There's too many to reply to individually, but please be assured I will seriously think on all you've said..
I HAVE expressed doubts to the missus, and been VERY careful about what I've said and not said. I was especially careful in expressing that I could be DF'd for just holding a dissenting view, something she found hard to believe. It's like the elephant in the room that daren't be talked about at the moment. I hope I don't step in the poo.
I'm definitely going to take it slowly, I DEFINITELY don't want to blow my marriage up while exiting the minefield. I think this IS a good time to take hold of the issue, express puzzlement, even if it's months down the line, it can be something to refer to as a stumbling block to those FEW people who will ask for a reason and who I think may deserve one.
I'm particularly encouraged by BLUESBROTHER above, that scripture is exactly what I had in mind and I'm glad this path worked for you to whatever extent it did work.
Thanks folks, I'll be reading all your replies over and over again I'm certain.

Thanks jgnat, i simply can't foresee a way to fade slowly and quietly. My better half would need an explanation, and our families are all still in too. It's hard to explain but it's difficult to get away without questions being asked, but if i can point to a turd in a corner and say 'I don't like that', i feel many would just think 'he's got a problem with what he thinks is a turd' and after a few unsuccessful attempts to reason it out would leave me alone to work it out myself... Maybe?
The idea is to get myself out and hopefully the missus will follow. I don't think she'd follow for NO reason, but given a vague reason would maybe get her thinking for herself...
Man, it's a minefield..

The reason I ask is cos I'm finding it hard to completely fade without an external reason. Thus when asked about my 'struggling' I could simply state that my faith has taken a battering and I'm working on it.. (I know there are MANY external reasons one could quote, but they'd most likely get me DF'd and I'd really rather like to be able to speak with my family.)
So do y'all think this upcoming change could be a convincing visible catalyst for me to express doubts, and the perfect time to expedite a fade?

whilst perusing some mags from 1887 (as you do) i stumbled upon this article slagging off the 'protestant papacy' as they called it.. it may have been posted before, but it was new to me (as, increasingly is a lot of stuff) so i thought i'd share... i've emboldened some areas of interest, it shows (to me) a good attitude back then.. see anything familiar with our day in there?.

Thanks Fernando, and Phizzy - I wish I'd been even vaguely conscious of the change during the 80's , I was blissfully unaware of anything going on in HQ, and even into the 90's AND 2000's with the numerous doctrine changes, I just accepted it as refined teaching without giving it much thought..
I feel like the proverbial frog put into warm water with the temperature being turned up.. I didn't notice my own brain being cooked.
I wonder what my legs will taste like?

I'm still getting my head around this whole 'it's a lie' scenario, but i gotta say, it's powerful reading the words of Russell and seeing how far from his ideas the WTS has drifted..
Just gotten hold of the divine plan of the ages, with the pull out chart of the pyramid measurements, THAT is some mad stuff!
